Camp Clipper provides a scholarship based sailing alternative to encourage underserved students in the San Francisco and Marin County communities, particularly the youth of Marin City and San Rafael Canal district..

The program was created in 2004 through the joint efforts of Sailing Education Adventures, America True, Performing Stars of Marin and Fish Restaurant. Camp Clipper is a one-week introduction to sailing, with classes lasting 3 hours/day for 5 days.

Typically light morning breezes give students the opportunity to start learning about wind and water and to have fun sailing on Richardson Bay, all with safety in mind.

Counselors: SEA is a member of the ASA. Our Instructors are certified by the ASA. All of our Counselors are certified in Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Our ratio of counselors to campers is approximately 1:4.

Safety:
The 16.5' Capris we use are great beginner boats and are stable. However, there is always the possibility of capsizing, so having a comfort level in the water and good swimming ability is good to have but not required. Everyone will wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on the docks and on the boats. We also keep on file a completed medical form for each camper so that we will know who to contact in case of an emergency.

What to Wear:
Dress in layers and bring a towel and extra clothing. It is often cool in the early morning but warms up quickly. Water shoes /sandals,sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat with a brim are recommended. We provide life jackets.

More Special Events:
Past special events have included outings on the the historic scow schooner Alma, and tours of the visiting replica of Columbus's ship the Nina.

Why are you doing this?
Because it's great to introduce kids to sailing, and the life-lessons it can teach.

Why Marin?
Because of the awesome folks there (FISH, SEA, Performing Stars) who have collaborated to make this possible."

What kinds of activities do you engage the kids in?
The Camp teaches basic Sailing terminology, knot-tying, and of course lot's of on-the-water fun on the sailboats!"

History

SEA has run youth sailing programs since 1984. Many of our volunteers work hard to improve the camp curriculum, equipment and facilities on a continuing basis. As a non-profit organization we are in turn supported by the America True, Belvedere Cove Foundation, Marin Charitable and other local organizations who are interested in the future of youth sailing.

In 1998 & 2004 SEA won the prestigious Nimitz Trophy in recognition of the quality of our youth program.
