This weekend saw yet another affirmation of SEA's incredible volunteer spirit and dedication to all things sailing.

Led by Maintenance Coordinator Thad Glass, the SEA winter maintenance on Sunday February 12th was graced by beautiful weather in the morning with a cool and windy afternoon.  A wonderful day for sailing (ack!). A strong showing of over 25 volunteers joined various teams throughout the day to help prepare the boats and docks for the season.

Not only did die-hard sailors and five board members return to the annual call, but we had visits from at least 3 drop-in visitors, summer camper Maya and her father Martin, as well as a a charged up mini schnauzer.

Catalina Team crews scrubbed and cleand boats, sails, and flotation devices.  Matthias Lux inspected and sealed keel compartments. Frank Lawler put in his usual full day at precise rigging inspection and repair.
Santana Team leader Sandor Schoichet charged ahead with a full cleaning and power-washing of Shockwave, with emails in Maintenance already circulating on a follow-up for Heatwave.

maint1Last June 18, we had our second Maintenance Party of the year at SEA Docks and we would like say Thank You to: Anne, Christian, Dolph, Frank, Helena and Sandor.

These folks pitched in and helped out making the boats a little bit better. We now have solid sails, new sheets, new lines for reefing and in the process of fixing the motor mount for Shockwave. So when you see these folks, say "thank you" to them for helping out.

There is still one more scheduled Maintenance Party which we will announce soon, so I hope to see you all there.

Shockwave Flying? Print Email

santana 525 sailing classesShockwave does appear to be high in the sky when looking up at her on drydock. But, Tuesday night's SYC Beer Cans racing will be the true test now that SEA's Santana 525 got a nice bottom cleaning and painting this week at Spaulding Wooden Boat Center in Sausalito.

There is something humbling when you watch a boat get hoisted into the air and it towers above you on the docks. You see the full exposed body of what keeps you floating in the SF Bay Waters. You can admire the shape of its keel and be in awe of how that one "wing" can slice through water and keep you from rolling when you hit 30 knot winds!
