Photo by Marilyn SEA's VP Martin (aka the bbq guy at the Open House) pretty much sums up all we want to say: "Hallelujah! Thank you sun, good wind and great juju!"
Our Open House Extravaganza on Sunday drew over 150 visitors to the new SEA base at Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael. With sails raised on our fleet of Picos and Catalina Capris, we were ready for action. And, action was the word of the day!
Our volunteers are gold. Summer Camp Youth Counselors Nic, Alex and Pierce worked hard taking folks on sailboats, many experiencing for the first time what we are passionate about. Adults and kids alike were grinning ear to ear, and that we love too. Thank you, counselors!
Folks rowed the Whitehall dory, our trawler Descalza was filled with passengers cruising around the Marin Islands, Coach Billy had his team of fall youth sailors plying the water, and the bbq master was flipping burgers as fast as he could - we enjoyed an event that sets a strong tone of good times coming in 2013, our 30th year!

What a packed weekend for everyone - Fleet Week, Adventure Sails, AC Racing, Youth Sailing and Family Sailing!
One new family joined our Saturday sail because the mom, Sarah, used to sail with her father in Italy, and now she wants her daughters to share in the rich memories, too!
It was a blast with the Blue Angels flying above. Rich Hodges, Reann Dukes, along with John Dick and eight year old son Alex led the group on the water. Sarah and eight year old Chloe learned some new skills while Barbara McVeigh, Chloe's sister Maia and her dad followed along in the skiff. All headed to the edge of Richardson Bay and hove-to in order to catch Fleet Week action in sailboat style.
And, the secret is out - Alex's mom makes the BEST chocolate cupcakes!

Meeting time was noon at Clipper Yacht Harbor on a cloudy Saturday to see the America’s Cup sailing race on the Bay. Peter had invited SEA member Sandor with his son Nick, as well as his colleague Rob with his family (wife and 5 kids) to share sailing on our Ericson 38 Kranich (“crane” in German). All together we counted 6 adults and 5 kids, including 4 adults with sailing experience for an exciting day on the bay.

There's nothing like watching a grandfather, a father and three young children rig a dinghy with confidence and set sail across Richardson Bay. Add a Danish accent and you understand what sailing does - it connects generations, families, friends, cultures and heritage. And, it's fun!
Lots of sailing families gathered at the SEA docks on Saturday. John Dick, one of our newest members and ASA certified instructor, and his son Alex have helped take the newer family members sailing. Eight year old Alex is always asking - "Can I help you rig?" He's really getting to know the boats and is ready to teach parents some tricks!
