SYC Midwinters Race 2 Print E-mail

syc_racing_0823.jpgThe second race of the SYC Midwinter Series (actually Race #1 since the first race was abandoned due to lack of wind) occurred on Sunday, 12/4.  We were eager to try out the new racing mainsail and jib.

After a couple of postponements due to shifting winds, the race began.    All divisions received course 11, which would take us across the slot to Blackaller buoy and then back toward Pt. Knox buoy before the Finish.  With me (Adam) as the skipper and Joe and Karen taking care of the mainsail and jib, the team worked together throughout the race.  We had a good start, as we crossed the starting line just seconds after the gun.  It was a beautiful day with clear skies and southerly winds hitting close to 10 knots.  The new sails are great as they allow us to point much higher than in the past.  We raced across the slot towards our first mark.  After a solid rounding we went on a broad reach towards Pt. Knox.  The team worked together on sail trim, identifying marks, and keeping the boat properly balanced.  After rounding Pt. Knox buoy, we raced upwind towards the finish.  We happily finished in 2nd place and had a leisurely sail back to Sausalito.
