Every Wednesday night this fall, SEA members and graduates of ASA 101 are invited to come down to the SEA dock and GO SAILING! We've had some amazing evenings so far this spring/summer, with winds varying from super-light to challenging! You'll be paired with someone who can complement your skills (translation: if you are rusty or still learning, you'll be partnered with a more experienced sailor) and we always have a coordinator out on the RIB for safety. We might do some practice drills, we might do some racing, or we might just go sailing. It's up to the gang who show up.

A few weeks ago, we had all four of the Catalina 16.5s out. A TON of us met at the dock at 6:00 p.m. to rig the boats. Wayne MacIntosh, Frank Lawler and Kai Miglio were on the RIB and they set up a race course for us up north in Richardsons Bay toward Strawberry Point. The winds were perfect for dinghy sailing: light, but plenty to keep the boats going.

After getting warmed up on our boat, Karri Ving, Katka Leitzing and I wowed everyone (and ourselves) with a fantastic start, but a not-so-great finish on the first race. After four races, 3 of the four boats had posted a win. America's Cup, look out!

As the days are getting longer, we were able to do more sailing after the races until the sun went down. Back on our boat, Karri practiced reefing and un-reefing while under sail, in preparation for her ASA Instructor Training course (which she passed!).

After we put the boats to bed, we all gathered on our most wonderful clubhouse/trawler Descalza for snacks and beers. We shared stories of the evening's sail and other adventures.

The Wednesday night sails are FREE! They are a fantastic and fun way to hone your skills and get to know some other sailors.
