Developing Skills Through ASA 103 Print E-mail
Written by Helena Ghez

103-6studentsWithin one week, we had taken the ASA 103 course where we spent three hours on-land learning about gear, safety, weather and seamanship (thanks Sandor!).  Then, we spent fourteen hours on the water conquering handling a boat under power and sail, crew overboard, and reefing.  Mike led the class where Dustin, Chris and I (Helena) mastered several new skills.  With so many boats on the water for fleet week, we practiced our right-of-ways in tight quarters!  What a sight to see those jets from the water.

I encourage everyone who has passed ASA 101 to consider taking ASA 103!  It’s an incredible way to improve your sailing abilities and feel more confident in larger boats.

Thank you, Mike, for coming out and teaching us new skills on keelboats.
