China Camp's Heritage Days Festival experience is gold to many sailors. On August 21st several SEA members joined the festivities either by car or sailboat at China Camp, a Chinese shrimp-fishing village that thrived on this site in the 1880s. They met up with members of the Master Mariners Benevolent Association and got to experience paddling to shore from anchored boats and entering a bygone maritime era listening to mandolins, sea shanties and boat talk of old wooden boats - schooners, ketches, junks and dories. The following morning Captain Richard Gillette of Pegasus invited SEA members for hot coffee - arguably another treasure enjoyed after sleeping aboard! Mark your calendar for next year!
