SEA offers another awesome workshop to get your boat ready for the 2011 season! PresenterŠárka Volejníková is an amateur, self-taught boat canvas seamstress. Armed with her two hands, childlike enthusiasm and a background in the design of outdoor spaces, she approaches her sewing more as construction work than tailoring. With the encouragement of her mate Eric Spross she purchased a heavy-duty Sailrite machine, and from small and simple sewing projects she moved on to large and complex ones. Not all of them were great successes at first, but all of them were worth the effort, and all helped her build knowledge and skill in canvas work. The work Šárka did on her and Eric’s boat Mariposa was in preparation for their Baja cruising adventure, on which the two embarked in the fall of 2008. They spent sixteen months sailing the coast of California, Baja California and Mexico. Their Sailrite machine went along on the trip and despite its weight proved to be a lot more than ballast. Sails
