That is what a couple of women were thinking a few weekends ago…
Two women had rented a kayak and were out exploring Richardson Bay on a beautiful Sunday when unrepentantly they found themselves next to their kayak instead of on top of it. They tried several times to right the kayak but were unsuccessful. As you are well aware, Richardson Bay is not exactly comfortable swimming temperature, unless you are wearing a wetsuit (which they were not). So now what…
Luckily for them there was an SEA ASA 101 class out on the water. SEA Safety Boat Skipper Wayne McIntosh was at the docks with another student but noticed the capsized kayak and requested on the radio that the SEA boats investigate.

On behalf of the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce, I want to thank each of the 6 (yes, SIX!) members of SEA who stepped up and volunteered their time at the Chamber Food Booth at the Sausalito Art Festival over Labor Day Weekend. We sent an appeal out a couple of weeks before the Festival and I was delighted that AJ (Busta), Leslie (Wallach), Joyce (Jones), Sallie (Lippe) and Tom and Bernice (Kehoe) answered the call. The Food Booth is the biggest fundraiser for the Chamber and we simply couldn't do it without our wonderful volunteers.

| | Exciting action is expected in the waters of Richardson Bay this Friday night.
Chris Holland, Wayne Mcintosh, Barbara McVeigh, Wesley Frederick and Matt Tibbals will be vying for position and optimal wind when they race against each other, wrapping up the five part race series of The SEA Dinghy Regatta 2010.
Last Saturday the races proved dinghy racing is challenging and fun, even with a T-bone, igniting a protest by one victim that is still being discussed - and, will likely be resolved over a glass of whiskey after races Friday.
Come out and see the action! The race starts at 6pm right off the SEA docks and will be followed up by a skipper claiming victory and all swilling spirits at Seahorse! |
Sailing out on the bay by moonlight was phenomenally beautiful! First we sailed over to have a look at the fancy russian yacht moored in Sausalito, where we also found the wind had died completely. But we found the wind again once we headed towards and under the bay bridge, sailing anti-clockwise around Treasure Island and finally back to the Marina. We practiced navigating by the sound buoys and The sturgeon moon was of course gorgeous, and the weather was unseasonably warm!
The Summer Solstice crew was: John Paul, Siggy, Rebecca, Michael and Sallie.

| | Come watch some of your favorite instructors and students battle each other over a grueling 5 race series. Racing the Catalinas we have all grown to know and love, five SEA skippers will race within Richardson Bay to settle, once and for all, who is the fastest skipper in the West.
Come down to the docks from 10am to 5pm to cheer on your favorite crew and enjoy a day on the water. There are even some slots available to crew for those who want to do more than watch.
The skippers racing in the series are Chris Holland, Wayne Mcintosh, Barbara McVeigh, Wesley Frederick, and Matt Tibbals. The winner will take home coveted bragging rights and the title of Fastest Catalina Skipper. |
